Dear Friends,
Happy New Year!!! Hope you’re well and all geared up for 2014!!!
Some of you may be aware that I’m heading off to Cambodia
with my partner Sunly (Lee) on Friday 17th
January 2014, during this time we will be travelling to Kampong Speu.
In 2009 Lee’s parents built
a Primary School there for under privileged kids.
Kampong Speu is the poorest area in Cambodia and is also the
hometown to Lee’s parents Mr Ear Kay Heng
(Kim) & Mrs Hor Boury (Mary).
Kim and Mary have spent most of their
lives saving for this dream to help their hometown, by investing in the education of the children
who are too poor to attend School.
The school was initially built to house 200 children
and now have approximately 700 children attending, including those from
the surrounding villages.
We are getting some stationery
kits for the children and will offer services
where needed, Lee will help with the
maintenance around the school (handy man stuff) and I will teach the kids some
English (hopefully I won’t corrupt them haha).
I am hoping to learn a lot from these kids about their
lifestyle and education and also aim to explore
community garden ideas with them.
Hopefully together we can come up
with ideas to inspire the children to create a sustainable living community.
We hope to give the children
motivation and inspiration to study hard and follow their dreams to continue
their education overseas particularly in Australia.
We know that this is a difficult
time for everyone financially as our pockets have been stretched from Christmas
& New Years, so we are asking only if you can to spare us a small donation
of a gold coin to help fund the stationery etc for the children.
I’ve been told that $1 can provide
a child with a stationery pack with books & pencils etc for their school
term.
Lee and I will cover for the short
fall or contribute more towards other things once we have received the
contributions.
We will be handling the whole
process from purchasing to handing out the items to the children, we want to
ensure that every bit goes towards the children.
We would also like to take this
opportunity to thank our dear friend My-Yung Lin for her big heart &
generous donation of $300 to the school.
We will update you with all
expenses & where the donation has gone to help. If you are unable to donate
at this time, we completely understand J
Thank you for taking the time out
to read our email, we really appreciate it.
Sunly (Lee) & Jess.
